n 1924, Camp Founder Girls was established as the very first summer camp for Black girls in the US. CFG served hundreds of girls from the San Antonio area from the 1920s-1960s, giving them the opportunity to try new activities and seek new adventures in the outdoors.
In 2019, Camp Founder Girls was revived by Black Outside Inc, a San Antonio-based nonprofit whose mission is to reconnect Black youth to the outdoors. With only 4% of summer campers nation-wide identifying as Black/African American, CFG is just as important as ever. With each session, CFG hopes that all of our campers leave feeling strong, brave, creative, and confident.
